"Fantasy, abandoned by reason, produces impossible monsters; united with it, she is the mother of the arts and the origin of marvels." - Goya

There I go again. After a few weeks of disturbance in head and heart I'm drawing for myself again. This is the start of a monster collection. Some people have monsters inside who try to drive them crazy, telling them stuff that is not true and party on emotions, whatever, this is an attempt to overcome some annoying monsters and vioces who are living currently in me.
My teacher told me, not to fight or kill them, but to make friends with them (the dalai lama way - very compassionated...) so first I have to give them faces. Tonight I started experimenting with colors and inkt to slack my hand again (it's kind of stiff at the moment when it comes to drawing). Most of those monsters are hard to visualize, but when I keep on working, I'm sure they will turn out well (as well as a mind-eating monster can be). In the end I'm hopefully able to shut them up (with candy and a lot of monsterous love) and find a way to not let them drive me crazy. This is really a kindergarden way of handling such problems, but it's worth a try :p
So following, my new monsterbook that will be filled with all sorts of disgusting, funny, disturbing and whatsoever kind of beasts.

Next thing is an illustration I made for school. Assignment was to make a poster for a fictional bookfestival for kids. The title is "An exciting dream" (for those who don't understand dutch).
I drew it with inkt and water, scanned it, cut it, rearranged it and it was printed in A2 (looks cool that big), so my very first mixed media (I hate this term), I'm satisfied with.

Next is my last drawing assignment, where we had to illustrate our surrounding. I decided to draw some exaggerated situations that happen in my head when I'm walking through my neighbourhood. I did all the drawings in 2 nights and you can see that. It could have been a lot better if I'd have taken more time to work it out. Lesson learned... I still like the characters.
This is also mixed media (aquarelle, inkt, pen and photoshop fuss and bother...) background could have been way better, but I already mentioned that. wanna show it anyways because it was work that took me to my limits (not sleeping for 2 days is just sucky on mind and body).

Last but not least: The Nudes :)
We have anatomy drawing at school now. I'm doing quite good, experimenting with color and trying to get a body right...

This is a lot of stuff to look at and I love all those who sat it out! :)
Now, it's bedtime and I wish everyone a good week and you'll hear from me soon (not like last time I said that)!

"I'll be back. And in greater numbers!" - from a friend

I wasn't here for a while. My reasons: visiting home, exam weeks, no time to draw(?). Eat it!
Today I was at work and since i finished off a presentation for tuesday and my flash homework for monday this weekend, I felt it was time for some pleasure drawing (with learning effect of course)! Plus - the shop was freaking deserted today, so I had time to procrastinate - in a good way. Males was the subject - a male fashion magazine the inspiration. You can't find real masculine models in fashion magazines, but boys will be men soon, so i take what i get... (do NOT dare to raise an eyebrow!)
I already analysed my results, I know what I have to work on and I will. :)
Next time i will upload some illustrations for a change, because that is what i'll be doing the next two weeks. Thanks for reading and looking at my pictures, comments are welcome.

for rosi :)

p.s. some of the drawings are made real quick. i wanted to catch expressions and characteristics.
p.p.s. I like ears :)
p.p.p.s. I promptly react on grammatical corrections!

“I'd rather go by bus.” - Prince Charles

I made a little bus trip today, accidentally. It was very nice, I like drawing strangers in a bus. 1. because i have to draw quick, 2. it looks chicken scratched automatically...
Problem is - I don't have the guts to draw them from the front, so I mostly have profiles or their backs, but it doesn't matter. It helps my hand to slack and I get used to make quick sketches. It's still hard to really catch expressions or characteristics, but that's why I'm doing it. I already become better and I wanna make more bus rides now :p

does someone look familiar on this one?

I swear - his arms were reaaaaaally that short....

"Art is the only way to run away without leaving home." - Twyla Tharp

Holidays arrived. A whole week without any obligations - nearly! So more time to work, actually.
Even though I was freaking lazy today, I managed to do something drawy (made that one up...)
White polychromos on black paper to have a look what is possible in this style. Here's hoping for a productive week.
I'm tired, so I'll just upload and shut up.

"One must always draw, draw with the eyes, when one cannot draw with a pencil." - Balthus

Fabrics, hair, proper faces, posture etc. can all be found at work in knitwear catalogues :p
Had some time, to draw today and study knitted fabrics and especially hair. I used to draw hair either as a helmet or as spaghetti, hanging from the head. Now that I practice more, hair becomes one of my favorite things to do. It's soooo pretty (stupid girlish smile)! Will search a hairdresser's magazine and go deeper into hairstudys.
Don't know what I've learnt today - maybe that the brain works better, when you eat during work... I have some issues preparing food for work, so I don't die of starvation during the day. Have to work on that as well.
Oh, I also studied noses today - only looking at them, but working in a shop is like going to a great nose exhibition :p Unfortunately, I can't ask the customers to stay a bit longer, because I wanna draw their noses... But I'll stay tuned on the nose front - it's a gold mine for character design.
